Paint Splatter Nail Art Guide

I have been eyeing up a couple of nail art techniques that I have come across recently via google and YouTube. Creating this paint splatter nail art was fun indeed.

You will need some Sellotape, drinking straws, the usual base and top coat, a base colour and the polishes that you wish to splatter onto your nails. Make sure you have protected the area you are working in by putting down newspaper and kitchen towel. You don't want to get polish everywhere. I didn't find it too messy but you do need to be aware of where you are splattering the polish!

1)Apply base coat as always

2)Paint your nails with 2 coats of your base colour polish. I chose pastel pink.

3)Prepare all of the polishes that you want to splatter by taking off the tops, wiping the polish off of the brushes and placing them upside down so as not to make a mess.

4)Place some Sellotape on your fingers around all of your nails to decrease the amount of nail polish you will get on your hands. You don't need to do this if you don't want to as the Sellotape does pull at your skin but it just means you will have more to clean off with nail polish remover.

5)Place your straw in the nail polish and then blow through it to splatter the polish onto each nail in turn. You don't want to overload the straw with polish as it will create big blobs of polish but you don't want too little polish on the straw as the technique won't work effectively. Also, you need to blow through the straw with a sharp and short puff of air for the technique to work properly. You need to make sure that you are not too close to your nail with the straw and also that you are not too far away.

6)Leave your splattered nail art to dry for quite a while before applying top coat so as not to smudge your polish.

I messed my first attempt up using black polish. I found that my splatter effect was rather blobby. I thought it was because I was using Barry M Gelly Shine Polish which is quite thick so I had another attempt using neon Nails Inc polishes and it was slightly less blobby.

I am very much into multicoloured nail designs at the moment so I liked creating this look. What do you think?
